Newbie Project Questions- Wire and Misc

Discussion in 'DIY Speakers and Subwoofers' started by Greatwhitewing, May 26, 2014.

  1. Hi, great thing you have going here. Love the concept.
Me and my boy building the Amiga tower. Working on crossover right now. Couple questions.

    1. What gage and type of wire should I be using from the Xover to the drivers and to the binding posts? Stranded speaker wire?
    2. Can I/Should I spray any coating when done? I have seen circuit cards conformal coated to protect from moisture etc.
    3. Should I have baffling inside the speaker? If I do where do I get it?

    Thanks in advance

  2. 1.Use 16 gauge wire.
    2. No. If you have that moisture, the crossovers will be the least of your problems.
3The interior walls of the enclosure need to be lined with some sort of convoluted foam or BlackHole (honestly, I use mattress topper from Wal Mart). There is also a wad of stuffing resting in the bottom 1/4" of the cabinet.
