Volt 10’s - do I need an enclosure?

  1. I have a pile of Volt 10’s that will play Atoms, surround and rear duty - 8 in total. I know that the driver does not require an enclosure and is the reason I selected them for Atmos. As I’m finishing out my columns that will house the surround speakers I’ve run into a problem. To get a 1 cubic foot box into the opening of my column I’ll have to build a custom front I.e I won’t be able to use the machined MDF front that came with the driver. Even then getting the box into the opening will be challenging.

That got me thinking, what would I be losing if I install the driver into the column itself without an enclosure? Hoping for some words of wisdom.
