Volt 8's in Columns - Need Measurements

  1. I already inquired about this at the DIYSG web site. Here's what I wrote Erich:

SO Erich, after spending hours trying to keep my room column design slim and trim (I've got low ceilings), it finally dawned on me that the width of the HT8 waveguide means I can't reduce the enclosure width at all (12.5"). To accommodate that width plus speaker frame molding and a decent edge space, the columns end up looking too fat and squat.

I'm now hoping the Volt 8's will allow for a narrower column design -

Here's my current column design. I can go deeper if I need to, but I'd like to keep the width or even narrow it a bit...

Just to be clear, I am building a box for the speaker. ATM I've got 11 inches of width to fit a speaker baffle up against the frame cloth:

So, how shallow a box can I make for the Volt 8's with a box width of 11 inches? I've got lots of vertical room...

  2. I'm not an expert, but looking at the inner volume of the volt-8 atmos flatpack, its 541.5 cubic inches. If you used the full 6.23" depth and 11" inner width illustrated, you'd need a box that is 7.87 inches high to acheive the same volume for the driver. Would you be porting them?
